Minn Kota Stays on the Cutting Edge of Technology with
New Line of Digital Linear On-Board Chargers
July 2010
RACINE, Wis. –
Minn Kota® has fortified its line of battery chargers with its
all-new, microprocessor-based, Digital Linear On-Board Battery Chargers.
The new chargers provide a more precise, faster charge while protecting
and extending battery life.
“Our new Digital Linear On-Board Battery Chargers represent the
evolution of our on-board charger line,” Minn Kota Senior Brand Manager
Joe Brown said. “By taking advantage of digital technology, we assure
that our products continue to be on the leading edge of innovation.”
The new Minn Kota on-board chargers are digitally controlled to
monitor temperatures and state of charge to create a faster, regulated
and more precise charge. Digital Linear technology delivers up to two
times faster charge times in high heat conditions.
To prevent damage to the battery during long-term storage, the new
on-board chargers feature an enhanced maintenance mode that
automatically shuts off 24 hours after the battery is fully charged. The
charger continually monitors battery voltage and will automatically
turn back on to maintain full charge.
The Digital Linear On-Board Battery Chargers employ the proven
performance of Minn Kota’s Multi-Stage Charging and Automatic
Temperature Compensation technologies.
Multi-Stage Charging ensures a full charge while at the same time
preventing overcharging, which can damage and shorten the life of a
battery. This technology automatically controls current and voltage over
three charging stages: bulk, absorption and maintenance.
Automatic Temperature Compensation constantly adjusts output voltage
based on ambient temperature. This optimizes the battery gassing
threshold to allow the battery to efficiently reach a full charge in any
conditions. This feature also protects the battery from boiling due to
overcharging at higher temperatures.
The Digital Linear On-Board Battery Chargers also have enhanced status
codes. Users receive key information through a color-coded LED display.
The lights indicate if the battery is being charged; what stage the
charging process is currently in; when the charging process has been
completed; or if there is a problem that is preventing the charging
process from taking place properly.
Additionally, each Minn Kota Digital Linear On-Board Battery Charger:
• Features arc protection to prevent sparking when connecting to
batteries
• Has been extensively saltwater-tested to be fully corrosion resistant
• Can be used with 12 volt/6 cell batteries that are flooded/wet cell,
maintenance free or starved electrolyte (AGM) only
• Is FCC compliant and UL listed to marine standard 1236
• Carries a three-year warranty
Minn Kota Digital Linear On-Board Battery Chargers are available in 1
to 4 bank models, with 5, 6, 10 or 15 amps output per bank. Suggested
retail prices range from $89.99 to $469.99.
